The God of cricket

June 30th, 2007

Since my childhood days, I have been growing up watching Cricket and that too, my favorite player being, The God of Cricket, The Little Master, Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar. Although, he has been through many ups and downs in his long and illustrious career, he has been the biggest asset for the Indian team. There was a time, when he single handedly won matches for India. I have wondered, why the team was called India. Rather, it could have been called as Team Sachin. But, for the past few years, there are also other players playing well and it is beginning to be a team game releasing some of the pressure on Sachin. But, even now, when Sachin goes into bat, he carries the hopes of a billion people on his shoulders and if he fails, falls under heavy criticism. But, he has never cared much about what people say and has always silenced his critics whenever they questioned his batting prowess. He is the best player in cricket and I hope many people will side with me. There hasnt been a single player who, in his 19th year of cricket, still carries the hopes of all Indians and also doing it successfully. Here is what some legendary cricketers have got to say about our little master.. Lets start with the legendary players from down under..

SIR DON BRADMAN: “I was very very struck with his technique and I asked my wife to come and have a look at him because, I said, I never saw myself play but I feel that this fellow is playing much the same I used to play by looking at him. I can’t explain it in detail, but it’s just his compactness, and his stroke production and his technique, it all seemed to gel as far as I was concerned and that was how I felt.”

SHANE WARNE: “I’ll be going to bed having nightmares of Sachin just running down the wicket and belting me back over the head for six. He was unstoppable.I don’t think anyone , apart from Don Bradman , is in the same class as Sachin Tendulkar. He is just an amazing player.” “You have to decide for yourself whether you are bowling well or not. He’s going to hit you for fours and sixes anyway.”

“When it comes to judging the best among these fabulous band of batsmen, my vote goes to Sachin. He has an uncanny ability to come out on top in different circumstances and different conditions, be it ODI or tests. And more importantly, he has done that so young.”

DAVID BOON: “Technically, he stands out as the best because of his ability to increase the pace at will.”

STEVE WAUGH: “There is no shame in being beaten by such a great player. Sachin is perhaps only next to Don.” “You take Don Bradman away, and I think, he is the next up, I reckon.”

“We won with ten, but lost to one.” after the Sharjah cup finals.

JEFF THOMSON: “Sachin is an attacker. He has much more power than Sunny. He wants to be the one to set the pace. He has to be on top. Thats the buzz about him.”

DENNIS LILLEE: “If I had to bowl to Sachin, I’ll bowl with my helmet on.He hits the ball so hard.”

GREG CHAPPELL: “He is a perfectly balanced batsman and knows perfectly well, when to attack and when to play defensive shots. He has developed the ability to treat bowlers all over the world with contempt and can destroy any attack with utmost ease.”

“I would like to see him go out and bat one day, with a stump. I tell you, he would do okay.”

MARK WAUGH: “The pressure on me is nothing as compared to Sachin. Sachin, like God, must never fail. The crowd always expects him to succeed and thats is too much pressure on him.”

“Its scary! Where the hell do we bowl him!!”

IAN CHAPPELL: “Sachin’s better. Lara is more risky outside the off stump.”

MARK TAYLOR: “He’s a phenomenon. We have to be switched on when he plays, allow him no boundaries, for then he doesn’t stop.”

IAN HEALY: “Tendulkar is the most complete batsman I have stood behind.I saw his hundred in Perth on a bouncy pitch with Hughes, Mcdermott and Whitney gunning for him? He only had 60 odd when no11 came in.”

SIR RICHIE BENAUD: “He has defined Cricket in his fabulous, impeccable manner. He is to batting as Shane Warne is to bowling.”

MIKE COWARD: “Sachin’s the best!! I have had this view ever since I saw him score that hundred in Sydney in 1992. He’s the most composed batsman I have ever seen.”

GLENN McGRATH: “I still think Sachin is the best batsman in the world ahead of Lara and Steve waugh.”

The God of cricket - Part II

June 30th, 2007

In the last post, you saw what the cricketers from Down under thought about our Little master. Now, lets see what the legends from other countries have got to say about our God.

West Indies:

DESMOND HAYNES: “In terms of technique and compactness, Sachin is the best.”

SIR VIV RICHARDS: “He is 99.5% perfect. I would pay to see him.”

SIR GARFIELD SOBERS: “Sachin is currently the best batsman in the World.”

BRIAN LARA: “For me, the best batsman in the World is, Sachin Tendulkar. I admire Jacques Kallis’ consistency and Ricky Ponting, with the purple patch that he’s going through. Everybody gets 15 minutes of fame. But, if there is one person that I’ve admired over a 15 year period, its definitely Sachin.”

Lets see what all other legends have a say on the master blaster.

BARRY RICHARDS: “Sachin is Cricket’s GOD.”

SUNIL GAVASKAR: “India’s fortune depends on how well the little champion scores. There is no doubt that Sachin is the REAL thing.”

MOHINDER AMARNATH: “A complete batsman? He is the best in business.”

MICHAEL KASPROWICZ: “Don’t bowl him bad balls. He hits the good ones for 4’s.

TONY GRIEG: “There’s no doubt about it. He is the best.”

SIR GEOFFREY BOYCOTT: “Technically, you cant fault Sachin. Seam or spin,Fast or slow? Nothing is a problem.”

PETER ROEBUCK: “Sometimes back, I had written a piece that said that, Sachin is a Master, and Lara a Genius. Thats it.”

KEITH FLETCHER: “A little genius.”

PAUL STRANG: “What Zimbabwe need is 10 Tendulkars.”

WASIM AKRAM: “Cricketers like Sachin come only once in a lifetime and I’m privileged, he played in my time.”

There are many more famous quotes about Sachin, but all I could do is, collect these few golden words about the God.

There are some things that many people are unaware of, about Sachin. Sachin sponsors 200 under privileged children, every year, through Apnalaya, a Mumbai-based NGO. He is reluctant and humble enough not to speak about this, or his various other charitable activities, choosing to preserve sanctity of his personal life, despite, the overwhelming media interest in him. So, Sachin, is, was and Will remain the GOD of cricket. Sachin is eternal in cricket!!!

Romance

June 28th, 2007

In this new blog of mine, I just wanted to post something that would woo the readers. So, the best topic, I thought, which would attract all types of readers, was Romance. Thinking of Romance, the initial thought that strikes our mind is the love shared between opposite sexes. This type of Romance shows intimacy between opposite sexes. The other type of Romance is shared between two friends which is purely affection oriented and is non-sexual. Most of the teenagers and guyz and galz aging between 20-28 are more inclined towards being romantic. Romance is mainly created in our hearts and romantic movies and songs further kindles the romantic spirit that every person possesses.

When, I searched into wikipedia to find more about Romance, I was flammoxed to find that there were many types of Romance that exists in a person. Each feeling of Romance is completely distinguished from one another. Types of Romance include Paranormal Romance, Scientific Romance, Ruritanian Romance, Historical and Planetary Romance. Romance is a feeling and can even be referred to a a type of Nationalism.

There are various romantic comedies and even romantic tragedies that have received wide acclaim from people all over the world. Some of the romantic pairs in my generation include, Surya & Jo, Aish & Abhi, Ajay & Kajol etc. So, as long as Romance exists, Love and Friendship will remain forever. So, people please post in your comments on the post and also help me develop this blog into a better one. Also, please post in your favorite romantic movie and song in the comments section. This post is dedicated to my romantic friend.
